My dream car was a 1957 Ford convertible, I never could afford one when I was young. I drove them and I really liked the car; but I settled instead for a 1957 Mercury Monterey 2dr Hard Top, green and white, purchased from Grady Whitlock Ford in Beckley ,WV with 40'000 miles and a purchase price of $500 dollars.
The car had the 312 Y block and push button automatic. This car would run with the best. I could start moving about 10mph, and punch it and pull the front wheels about 8 inchs off the ground and reach 110mph in seconds. If my dad had known it, I wouldn't be around right now to tell about it. I even would go over to the next county and get the city police after me; in those days they couldn't chase you past the county line. He had a 56 chevy and couldn't get close. Time went on and I wore the old car out, and purchased a 1960 Ford which caught on fire.
I am 68 yrs old now and still would like to have a 57 Ford and still can't afford it, but if I could find a reasonable priced 57 Merc. I would be happy. I am not able to restore one due to fianances and arthritus but I can still dream. I have pictures of the Merc but not with me today.
